She Likes Blue She likes blue Like the sapphire on her finger Or the mustang I was driving When I met her She likes sunset More than she likes sunrise Hard to open her eyes In the morning She hears laughter In the voices of her children Like the leaves before they say hello To winter She loves me Though I’ll never understand it Oh I never could have planned it A life so good She likes blue

Dogwood 04:39
Dogwood I can look into your eyes and still not understand What it is you’re thinking about That’s ok, ‘cause I don’t really need to know I can look into the skies and still not understand Why the God of heaven calls us out That’s ok, ‘cause I don’t really need to know Breathe in As the daylight goes Breathe in As the dogwood grows I have heard it said that you cannot change the world But I hope you don’t mind if I disagree For you have already changed me Somewhere near or distant life changes in an instant When one person takes the opportunity Just to listen and share amazing grace, so Breathe in As the daylight goes Breathe in As the dogwood grows Can you save a life just by giving up a smile Break the darkness with a glance Every room has a place where light can come in Changing our existence to princesses and princes Gathered for the dance Will you join me in this circumstance, and we can Breathe in As the daylight goes Breathe in As the dogwood grows (repeat x3) I can look into your eyes and still not understand What it is you’re thinking about That’s ok, ‘cause I don’t really need to know I can look into the skies and still not understand Why the God of heaven calls us out That’s ok, ‘cause I don’t really need to know

Transcendence Critics come to criticize through their sunglass darkened eyes But truth has never been ethereal Comics come to cut and slice as though they were someone wise There’s no shortage of material And I will walk on this treadmill one step at a time Sometimes standing tall and sometimes falling off the line You may say that I’m a sinner who does not believe in fate You may think I’m just a spinner and file your complaint Though I crash and though I climb, by the grace of God I'll find Transcendence through the circumstance of time Transcendence through the circumstance of time Painters come to paint with colors blue and green But art should never be seen as a ritual Dreamers come to dream of what is yet unseen Hearts that still hunger for the spiritual And I will walk on this treadmill one step at a time Sometimes standing tall and sometimes falling off the line You may say that I’m a sinner who does not believe in fate You may think I’m just a spinner and file your complaint Though I crash and though I climb, by the grace of God I'll find Transcendence through the circumstance of time Transcendence through the circumstance of time But hope that is seen is no hope at all A stone that makes men stumble and a rock that makes them fall But hope that is seen is no hope at all A stone that makes men stumble and a rock that makes them fall <harmonica> And I will walk on this treadmill one step at a time Sometimes standing tall and sometimes falling off the line You may say that I’m a sinner who does not believe in fate You may think I’m just a spinner and file your complaint Though I crash and though I climb, by the grace of God I'll find Transcendence through the circumstance of time Transcendence through the circumstance of time But hope that is seen is no hope at all A stone that makes men stumble and a rock that makes them fall

The Bomb Song Hostages, holocaust, bombs that are near Everywhere people are living in fear Terrorist action in every place Everyone wondering if they are safe Plan all your strategy build up your wall Strengthen defenses, sound out the call While you determine your acceptable loss I call your attention to The Man On The Cross Experts tell us with a turn of the wrist All human life might cease to exist How do you plan for a future unknown I rest in the fact we are never alone Plan all your strategy build up your wall Strengthen defenses, sound out the call While you determine your acceptable loss I call your attention to The Man On The Cross Now some are denying and some are distressed Others are just plain afraid The Shepherd And Bishop Of Souls 'Rose from the grave Wars and their rumors, the nations descend Pray for the people in Jerusalem Christians are hated, many turn away The debt of our sin in the end only Christ can repay Plan all your strategy build up your wall Strengthen defenses, sound out the call While you determine your acceptable loss I call your attention to The Man On The Cross

For Every Summer I looked at you And it made me wonder Would you be the one For every summer, fall and winter And in the springtime I’ll thank God that you’re mine Morning and evening, every breath that I’m breathing You held my hand And it made me wonder Would we walk like this For every summer, fall and winter And in the springtime I’ll thank God that you’re mine Morning and evening, every breath that I’m breathing Through every passageway that life may bring For every night and day I will wear your ring I’ll wear your ring I touched your face And it made me wonder Would I see your smile For every summer, fall and winter And in the springtime I’ll thank God that you’re mine Morning and evening, every breath that I’m breathing I looked at you And it made me wonder Would you be the one for every summer

Not Through Lovin' You He didn’t see it coming, he only heard her cry The sound of brakes and metal out the corner of his eye He saw her slumping forward before his own eyes closed He woke up in the hospital just as the daylight grows You’ve got some livin’ left, some doin’ still to do You’ve got some goin’ goin’ on before this life is through I need you to hold on, I need you to pull through You’ve got some livin’ left, I’m not through lovin’ you His first words were how is she, they bowed their heads and said We need to keep on prayin’, we will take you to her bed He held her hand and through the tears he whispered I love you I’m here and I’m not leavin’, I’m not through lovin’ you You’ve got some livin’ left, some doin’ still to do You’ve got some goin’ goin’ on before this life is through I need you to hold on, I need you to pull through You’ve got some livin’ left, I’m not through lovin’ you Funny how the moments fly Until time has finally run In amazement we ask why As though time had just begun It did not happen all at once, a finger then a hand Her eyes began to open like seeing light through sand He held her and touched her hair as gently as he could She said I’ve got some livin left, I’m not through lovin’ you I’ve got some livin’ left, some doin’ still to do I’ve got some goin’ goin’ on before this life is through You helped me to hold on, You helped me to pull through I’ve got some livin’ left, I’m not through lovin’ you I’m not through lovin’ you

Cigarettes Dancing Made the last shot at the buzzer twice Pictures in the paper well they sure were nice On the cover of a magazine that year Now could you just give me a job please sir For we are cigarettes dancing on the highway Sparks hit the ground and then they fly away Moments of glory here then gone away We are cigarettes dancing on the highway Put your faith in cash and stocks and bonds Funny how the money is so quickly gone Climbed the ladder many call success Found the hard way it was made of glass For we are cigarettes dancing on the highway Sparks hit the ground and then they fly away Moments of glory here then gone away We are cigarettes dancing on the highway <harmonica> Wonder if there’s more to life than this Wonder if there’s something that I might just have missed Could it be that old trade deficit Has more to do with what I give than what I get For we are cigarettes dancing on the highway Sparks hit the ground and then they fly away Moments of glory here then gone away We are cigarettes dancing on the highway For we are cigarettes dancing on the highway Sparks hit the ground and then they fly away Moments of glory here then gone away We are cigarettes dancing on the highway

Sparkle Lady 03:45
Sparkle Lady Sparkle lady you've been moving so, so fast And I fear you're burning out And I fear you're losing touch But I know that in you somewhere There's a very special girl And I miss that girl oh so very much You've become the kind of person Who can say hi and not mean it You've got so much charm but it does so much harm I wonder at how you can't see it Your smile's a photographic plate It’s so easy to duplicate But how the image fades when you’re alone Sparkle lady you've been moving so, so fast And I fear you're burning out And I fear you're losing touch But I know that in you somewhere There's a very special girl And I miss that girl oh so very much Be still and listen to what you find In the creases of your mind You may be surprised at what you hear The very colors we possess Coloring our emptiness A stained glass window Is hard to see through Sparkle lady you've been moving so, so fast And I fear you're burning out And I fear you're losing touch But I know that in you somewhere There's a very special girl And I miss that girl oh so very much

Wise Men And Warriors Our curiosity seems like such blissfulness We want to know all of this world’s ways We seek maturity and lose our innocence No more yesterday, no more yesterday Wise men and warriors dying or slain Half of our heroes seem to be on cocaine Many messiahs have come and have died Jesus, you’re the only Savior alive When I was younger, I looked to others For my direction and needs to fulfill But we hurt each other, I soon discovered There was an emptiness inside me still Wise men and warriors dying or slain Half of our heroes seem to be on cocaine Many messiahs have come and have died Jesus, you’re the only Savior alive Funny how quickly we want to leave home Strange then how often we feel we’re alone There is a brother who stands next to you And did what no other hero could do Broke His own heart under the weight of our sin Gave up His life, but He claimed it He claimed it again Wise men and warriors dying or slain Half of our heroes seem to be on cocaine Many messiahs have come and have died Jesus, you’re the only Savior alive

Virtual Retreat Some folks head for the golf course, others head for home Sometimes I go to the movies on the back row all alone Transform my mind into the set, just walk across that line Find myself a different soul somewhere else in time I’m not asking for much, just a chance to rest my mind From the troubles in my world, all the hassles that are mine I admit that I carefully premeditate each crime My cerebral transformation two hours at a time I ask for your forgiveness, I confess to you this vice I hope this explanation somehow will suffice My feet are firmly grounded in present reality I always will return from my virtual retreat I’m not asking for much, just a chance to rest my mind From the troubles in my world, all the hassles that are mine I admit that I carefully premeditate each crime My cerebral transformation two hours at a time Some folks head for the golf course, others head for home Sometimes I go to the movies on the back row all alone

The Hillside 02:43
The Hillside There's a tree on the hillside Where I used to read The sun would go searchin' But it would not find me There's a creek in the valley In the valley below And the creek keeps on runnin' For the springs make it so There's a field near the creek Where the grass grows up tall And the field looks like waves As the summer nears fall There's a fence by the field And it climbs up the hill And it's weathered and worn But it's standing there still And the fence disappears over the hill Over there where I cannot see But I do believe, yes I do believe I believe it goes on from there Oh the fence disappears over the hill Over there where I cannot see But I do believe, yes I do believe I believe it goes on from there

about

The Acoustic Folk Art series is an acoustic instrumentation and vocal mix of original songs. I began going through my music in 2013 selecting tunes from around forty years of songwriting and started recording the guitar and vocal tracks. Then in the spring of 2015 I found a talented gentleman from Virginia who brought in great musicians and made my songs sound way better than anything I ever could have done on my own. There are 11 tracks on each of the 4 albums or 44 tracks in all consisting of 42 songs, 1 story featuring a tri-modal turtle and 1 guitar sonata. Because, let's face it, there's a shortage of guitar sonata's in the world! :-) The story and corresponding sonata are found on volume 2 of the AFA series.

My music is available through most major online venues, but Bandcamp will always be uniquely personal to me. Here you can listen to full versions of each track and find lyrics and credits for each individual song.

Each of the four digital albums have been carefully balanced and stand individually as their own musical journey. Listen to the cello as it dances with the violin or marvel at Guilherme's flute skills. There's a lot to discover. I am indebted to Rob Hatem for his illustrative talent in developing the album artwork. Rob once characterized the folk genre as straightforward simplicity with character. I hope that my songs approach that standard.

You can correspond with me by sending a note to mark@TokenTunes.com.

Enjoy and thanks for listening!
