Persuaded 02:58
Persuaded Couldn’t help but staring at your face last night As you lay there sleeping in the moonlight Couldn’t help but wondering where my life would be Had I never met you, woman of my dreams I am persuaded I am in love I am persuaded I am in love Couldn’t help but listening to our children in their sleep Stirred by their dreams, visions I could not see Couldn’t help but thinking just how blessed one man can be As I watched you sleeping in the moonlight next to me I am persuaded I am in love I am persuaded I am in love Life is a song, here and then gone On strings of time Next to my side your gentle breathing Plays the next line I am persuaded I am in love I am persuaded I am in love

Ordinary Extraordinary He loved to listen to her singing on the radio The voice of an angel with a matching heart of gold Imagine his surprise when he saw her standing there In the park of his hometown, as the sun fell on her hair He smiled and he mumbled hi, sort of tucked his head She looked at him, smiled back and this is what she said It’s ok, we can talk Have a seat or take a walk Listen up now, here’s a clue I’m just an ordinary extraordinary person like you She loved to watch him play on their college team He could fly through the air like someone in a dream She walked into the lunch room, scanned her eyes around Looking for a place to sit, but nothing could be found Then she saw an open chair right in front of him He motioned come on over, her head began to spin It’s ok, we can talk Have a seat or take a walk Listen up now, here’s a clue I’m just an ordinary extraordinary person like you Wonder why we place people on a hill When the issues in our lives always match our skill And there’s so much of life we often rarely see We’re just ordinary extraordinary, both you and me He walked into the classroom as the last hour closed He’d been hired as a tutor, they did not mind his crooked nose A student walked up to him, asked if he would lend a hand She said I’ve been working on this problem that I still don’t understand And no matter what I try I don’t seem to get too far But they say when it comes to math, you’re a real star It’s ok, we can talk Have a seat or take a walk Listen up now, here’s a clue I’m just an ordinary extraordinary person like you Ordinary extraordinary person like you

Fire In Your Eye I can see the fire in your eye when you try I can hear the tears in your heart before they start I can feel the sunlight from your smile for a country mile I can see the fire in your eye Holding you in my arms some ten years ago Looked into your tiny face, tears started to flow Felt the love of heaven like I thought I’d never know Some ten years ago I can see the fire in your eye when you try I can hear the tears in your heart before they start I can feel the sunlight from your smile for a country mile I can see the fire in your eye Watching you grow every year brings blessing Where you step or sleep my love will always go Whatever comes your way, may you always know Where you are my love will go <harmonica> I can see the fire in your eye when you try I can hear the tears in your heart before they start I can feel the sunlight from your smile for a country mile I can see the fire in your eye

Whatever 03:01
Whatever Rejoice in the Lord always I will say it again, rejoice Let your gentleness be evident to all The Lord is near, do not be anxious About anything, but in everything By prayer and petition with thanksgiving Present your requests to God And the peace of God Which transcends all understanding Will guard your hearts and your minds In Christ Jesus Finally, brothers, whatever is true Whatever is noble Whatever is just Whatever is pure Whatever is lovely Whatever is admirable If anything is excellent or praiseworthy Think about such things And the peace of God Which transcends all understanding Will guard your hearts and your minds In Christ Jesus Finally, sisters, whatever is true Whatever is noble Whatever is just Whatever is pure Whatever is lovely Whatever is admirable If anything is excellent or praiseworthy Think about such things

Fly On My Shoe There’s a fly on my shoe, on my shoe, on my shoe There’s a fly on my shoe, I can see it, I do But my daughter, my daughter with eyes summer blue She shooed off that fly that was there on my shoe There’s a fly on my knee, on my knee, on my knee There’s a fly on my knee, I can easily see But my daughter, my daughter, my daughter named Brie She waved off that fly that was there on my knee There’s a fly on my back, on my back, on my back There’s a fly on my back, where my shoulder blades tack But my daughter, my daughter with one solid whack Disturbed that poor fly that was there on my back There’s a fly on my nose, on my nose, on my nose There’s a fly on my nose just above the two holes But my daughter, my daughter took our water hose And she soaked that poor fly that was there on my nose There’s a fly on my shoe, on my shoe, on my shoe There’s a fly on my shoe, I can see it, I do But my daughter, my daughter with eyes summer blue She shooed off that fly that was there on my shoe

Better To Ride Horses My engine made a noise, I knew that it was bad And when she started slowing down I figured I’d been had Pulled off on the side of the road, I tried to make a call The coverage wasn’t good out there, it would not work at all Then a man dressed plain in a buggy came, pulled up at my side I asked him for a lift to town; he quietly replied It’s better to ride horses, they run year after year It’s better to ride horses, that’s why God brought them here It’s better to ride horses, they are honest to the end They don’t ask much for all they give A true and faithful friend, a true and faithful friend We talked for the next hour about land and family Working with your hands and living life simply There was a peace about him, a quiet joy in his eye No amount of money could ever hope to buy I thought about my own life and the madness in each day As we listened to the hoof beats of the horse who led our way It’s better to ride horses, they run year after year It’s better to ride horses, that’s why God brought them here It’s better to ride horses, they are honest to the end They don’t ask much for all they give A true and faithful friend, a true and faithful friend Oh, there she goes now running for no reason Kicking up her heels in the air Oh, there she goes now just because it’s pleasin’ To feel the wind roll through her hair It’s better to ride horses, they run year after year It’s better to ride horses, that’s why God brought them here It’s better to ride horses, they are honest to the end They don’t ask much for all they give A true and faithful friend, a true and faithful friend

Such As These People brought their kids to Jesus To receive His blessing His disciples tried to stop them Jesus began sharing "Let the children come to me" That’s what Jesus said Kids see much others miss They know God’s not dead "For the kingdom of heaven Belongs to such as these" "Let the children come to me" That’s what Jesus said "Let the children come to me" That’s what Jesus said

When The River Is Long When I was just a boy, my Momma said to me Take this bucket, son, go and pick the beans You head down the row and lift every branch Keep your eyes sharp and pick each plant clean I said to her, Mom, the thermometer says It must be a hundred and twenty degrees She pondered on this and thoughtfully said Well, good, then I know you won’t freeze When the river is long you better start rowin’ The arch wasn’t built in only a weekend When the grass gets too tall you better start mowin’ When the fire is hot at least you’re not freezin’ When I was in high school my coach said to me Here’s the route that I want you to run You head through these hills up until the last turn Keep a move on and your feet may not burn I said to him, coach, the thermometer says It must be a hundred and twenty degrees He pondered on this and thoughtfully said Well, good, then I know you won’t freeze When the river is long you better start rowin’ The arch wasn’t built in only a weekend When the grass gets too tall you better start mowin’ When the fire is hot at least you’re not freezin’ <harmonica> Well now I’m a man and I’m working to clear A fence row for our daughter’s horses There’s hedge tough as nails and wrapped everywhere else Is poison ivy in choruses I said to myself, the thermometer says It must be a hundred and twenty degrees Then I laughed as I knelt down and started my saw At least I know I won’t freeze When the river is long you better start rowin’ The arch wasn’t built in only a weekend When the grass gets too tall you better start mowin’ When the fire is hot at least you’re not freezin’ <repeat chorus to end>

Human Race 03:05
Human Race People running crazy all around from place to place There’s no doubt that we are living in the human race If you sometimes feel like you’re running in last place Remember that the day is coming when the last will be first Racing to attain treasures built on sand Crumbling beneath us, try to save them if you can Thinking of tomorrow we formulate a plan But a house that’s built upon the rock alone will stand When this world starts to pass you by Don’t you run with them, don’t you even try There’s no use in running when you don’t know where you’re going to When they mock and laugh at you, don’t deny Him, don’t run by Him Remember that the day is coming when the last will be first Racing to attain treasures built on sand Crumbling beneath us, try to save them if you can Thinking of tomorrow we formulate a plan But a house that’s built upon the rock A house that’s built up on the rock A house that’s built on the rock alone will stand

about

The Acoustic Folk Art series is an acoustic instrumentation and vocal mix of original songs. I began going through my music in 2013 selecting tunes from around forty years of songwriting and started recording the guitar and vocal tracks. Then in the spring of 2015 I found a talented gentleman from Virginia who brought in great musicians and made my songs sound way better than anything I ever could have done on my own. There are 11 tracks on each of the 4 albums or 44 tracks in all consisting of 42 songs, 1 story featuring a tri-modal turtle and 1 guitar sonata. Because, let's face it, there's a shortage of guitar sonata's in the world! :-) The story and corresponding sonata are found on volume 2 of the AFA series.

My music is available through most major online venues, but Bandcamp will always be uniquely personal to me. Here you can listen to full versions of each track and find lyrics and credits for each individual song.

Each of the four digital albums have been carefully balanced and stand individually as their own musical journey. Listen to the cello as it dances with the violin or marvel at Guilherme's flute skills. There's a lot to discover. I am indebted to Rob Hatem for his illustrative talent in developing the album artwork. Rob once characterized the folk genre as straightforward simplicity with character. I hope that my songs approach that standard.

You can correspond with me by sending a note to mark@TokenTunes.com.

Enjoy and thanks for listening!
